Willow Shields was born on 1 June 2000 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her first acting experience was a short film called “Las Vegas New Mexico 1875”, in which she voiced a girl watching a gun fight. Later on, she got to model for Replay & Sons, together with her twin sister Autumn and her brother River. But of course Willow continued with acting. Only a year later, she appeared in an episode of the television series “In Plain Sight”. She portrayed young Liza Rogan and was seen on national Tv for the first time. In 2011, Willow appeared in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie “Beyond The Blackboard”, as a homeless child named Grace alongside Emily VanCamp.
But Willow’s big breakout role was yet to come: On the 20th April, 2011, Lionsgate confimed that they had cast her as Primrose Everdeen for the upcoming movie “The Hunger Games”. She says that she is very lucky and that “Prim is a great character to be”. The director of the film, Gary Ross, is impressed by Willow’s talent. “[…]Willow Shields will make an amazing Prim and we’re very lucky to have her.” Willow herself said, that it wasn’t easy to be emotional and sweet at the same time. She was very nervous on the first day of shooting the movie. But after all she had a great time on set. Willow became really good friends with so many people in the cast and tries to hang out with them once every while.
After all, Willow is still a typical 12-year-old. She enjoys spending her free time making art(especially artist trading cards), reading and listening to music on her recordplayer. Willow is currently in 7th grade, her favourite subjects include history and liturature. Besides school, Willow is interested in charity work. “I think it’s important to get involved”. She helped to clean up a damaged forest, visited the Manna Foodbank to pack boxes of food for homeless families and recently joined the “STOMP Out Bullying” campaign, which supports children and teenagers affected by different types of bullying.
