The biggest Christmas tree in the world

Often dubbed as ‘the biggest in the world’, the Mount Ingino can be found near Gubbio in Umbria, Italy. The ‘tree’ is 650 metres high and 350 m wide at its base, and was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records in 1991. The star alone covers 1,000 square metres and the tree is lit by more than 3,000 multi-coloured lights fed by a staggering 8.5 kilometres of electrical cable, placed all the way up the slopes of the mountain.

The tree is so big that it can be seen up to 50 kilometres away, and the lights are due to go on tonight. Last year it was lit by none other than Pope Benedict XVI using an iPad from his home in the Vatican.
