A junior at Destrehan High School, she was elected the Junior Class Representative for Student Council. She is a member of the Catholic Youth Organization, where she has helped volunteer her time painting homes for those less fortunate. And is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Peer Support Leader. Outside of school, she enjoys dancing at nursing homes, and organizing prayer groups. She is a student teacher and mentor for young students at her dance studio where she belongs.
Awards received have been Honor roll, Principal’s List. She has had a poem published in “Young Authors Book of Poetry.” Was selected Lieutenant of the high school dance drill team for 2003/04 school year. Other dance honors include the 2003 Louisiana State Dance/Drill Team Championship where Shelley placed 2nd in the Senior Division Individual winner. She was the recipient of a dance scholarship for Access Broadway. And selected into the senior program at the New Orleans Ballet Association.
This past summer, she was selected as a delegate in Model Search of America. She has also won Top Soloist, Top Model, and Model of the Year at Regional and National levels. She previously held the title Miss Teen St. Charles Parrish.
When Hennig was 16, her dance teacher convinced her to enter the Miss Louisiana Teen USA pageant with the hope of opening new doors. She won the title and went on to compete for Miss Teen USA 2004, subsequently winning that pageant as well. During her reign, Hennig campaigned vigorously with MADD and Buzz Free Prom to share her story and encourage students across the US to learn the dangers of drinking and driving.
After being crowned Miss Teen USA, Hennig was given a scholarship to the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts where she fell in love with acting. For two years she learned and refined her natural talent.
On April 20, 2007, Shelley joined the cast of Days of our Lives in the contract role of Stephanie Johnson, a role previously held by Shayna Rose from July 2006 to January 2007. In 2010 she received a nomination for the 37th Daytime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Younger Actress In A Drama Series category. She left Days of Our Lives in 2011 and soon it was anounced that she received the role as Diana Meade in the CW series: The Secret Circle.
In her spare time, you can find Hennig scouting Vancouver’s restaurants in search of some authentic crawfish étouffée, jambalaya or fried okra. However, if she finds a cool vintage clothing store along the way, she’ll be just as happy. She also loves classic films, dance shows, truffle fries and Oregon Pinot. She currently resides in Vancouver while filming “The Secret Circle.”
