Ralph Waite, who was most famous for playing the patriarch John Walton on the beloved series The Waltons, has died at the age of 85. A classic television star, Waite was the front man on the hit CBS series for nine seasons throughout the 1970’s, and also starred in several movies based upon its success.
He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for “Cool Hand Luke,” “Five Easy Pieces,” “Days of Our Lives,” “Carnivale,” and a handful of other series and movies.
The actor died midday on Thursday (February 13) at his home in South Palm Desert, Calif., a representative of his family told The Hollywood Reporter.
He was also married three times, was a former member of the United State Marine Corps, and most recently made appearances on hit shows, “NCIS” and “Bones.” The television icon is survived by his third wife, two daughters and stepson, and he will be sorely missed.
