Lauren Bacall died Tuesday morning of a stroke in her longtime home in the Dakota, the famous Upper West Side building that overlooks Central Park in Manhattan.
The legendary actress is best known for her roles in the movies Designing Women, How to Marry a Millionaire, and The Mirror Has Two Faces, which earned her an Oscar nomination in 1997. She later received an Honorary Award from the Academy in 2009.
Her first autobiography, “Lauren Bacall: By Myself,” won the National Book Award in 1980. “By Myself and Then Some,” her updated autobiography, was published in 2005.
She was married to Oscar-winning actor Jason Robards from 1961 until their divorce in 1969. They had one child together.
