Born into a political family, Kate Upton is the niece of Michigan congressman Fred Upton. After her family moved to Florida, the future blonde bombshell, previously a five-time equestrian champion, turned her attention to modeling. Like many young women in the Sunshine State, Kate Upton had dreams of being a model, but her lack of height proved a drawback. Consistently the shortest girl in her school class for years, she rocketed up to a height of 5’10” at 15. Fresh off the high of her sudden growth spurt and feeling confident that her natural looks would lend themselves well to the modeling arena, Upton attended an open casting call in Miami for Elite Model Management in 2008. As luck would have it, she was signed by the agency that same day.
Starting her modeling career in Miami after signing with Elite Model Management, Kate Upton eventually made her way up to New York City, where she was signed by top modeling agency IMG. Getting her first big break with Garage, Kate Upton experienced a career surge in 2010. Besides serving as a model for Dooney & Bourke, she was hired by Guess, putting her in the same league as other famous beauties such as Victoria Silvstedt, Megan Ewing and Adriana Lima, who have all worked with the fashion giant. With Guess, Kate Upton celebrated her status as a bona fide model by showcasing her saucier side through a number of lingerie ads for the company in the fall and winter of 2010, which resulted in her face and body flaunted across New York City billboards.
Kate Upton’s successful work with Guess led to consistent work with the company and offers from others. With Guess, Kate Upton added to an already vastly expanding portfolio by participating in accessories and handbag campaigns for 2011, while making time for an additional ad series for the brand that was photographed by the legendary photographer Ellen Von Unwerth. Beach Bunny Swimwear took notice, hiring her as the spokeswoman for their swimwear campaign, while Jenna Leigh Lingerie also signed her. Kate Upton’s early career highlight, for that matter — came in the form of her participation in the 2011 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. It was a serendipitous turn of events, especially given that she had missed the initial casting for the issue and the magazine had already filled its modeling roster. Nevertheless, she made the cut, donning a tasteful body paint number in the place of an actual swimsuit. Her appearance in the magazine led to an invitation to enter late-night folklore, courtesy of David Letterman, by presenting — alongside 10 models from the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, including Alyssa Miller, Chrissy Teigen and Irina Shayk — the “Top 10 Good Things About Appearing in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition” list. The red-hot industry beauty was crowned cover girl for Sports Illustrated in 2012, carrying her ever closer to her dream of becoming the next iconic American supermodel.
She also jumped on the trend of supermodels turning to the Silver Screen (Tyra Banks in Tropic Thunder, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in 2011’s Transformers and Brooklyn Decker in Just Go With It) with her acting debut in the film Tower Heist as Mr. Hightower’s Mistress. She followed up with an appearance in The Three Stooges as Sister Bernice.
We always knew Kate Upton was America’s sweetheart — but the rumors around her dating escapades suggest she’s even more all-American than we could have imagined. While Kate’s never admitted to officially dating any of these jocks, she was linked to New York Jets quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow earlier this year after. She once again made headlines in early July for her very-tiny-bikini-clad GQ cover shoot and accompanying Terry Richardson photo spread, as well as for spending quite a lot of time with one of Major League Baseball’s best pitchers, Detroit Tigers player Justin Verlander.
July 12, 2012: The pair has been seen out and about in Detroit recently. Kate and Verlander were spotted in Michigan last Thursday night at an Aerosmith concert, and she was seen watching the event from his private suite, according to the Huffington Post.
