An apple a day keeps the doctor away! The same saying applies to your smile. Chewing raw, crunchy fruits and vegetables, like apples and radishes, can mechanically remove food from teeth. Additionally, vegetables like celery and carrots are good sources of beta-carotene, a nutrient that is essential for building strong teeth.
Cheese please! It might sound unlikely, but one of the best and easiest ways to combat acid erosion in your teeth is to eat a piece of cheese after every meal. Cheddar is best, since it contains the highest levels of alkali; soft cheese like brie or feta won’t have much of an effect.
Beware of dried fruit. While some fresh fruits are considered good for teeth, dried fruits are a big “no no!” This snack — that I’m sure you once thought was healthy — is similar to sticky candy that clings to your teeth. Dried fruit is packed with non-cellulose fiber, which traps sugar on and around teeth.
