Everybody has a song. This isn’t Bhairavi Goswami’s song, the song is Bhairavi! A temptress, provocateur, unassumingly intelligent with a razor sharp wit, Philanthropist, Connoisseur, Childlike and jubilant in her excitement towards all things related to food, animals and life! . An adrenaline junkie, she loves extreme sports & living life on the edge.
Sexy is the term most often used to describe Bhairavi and she makes no qualms about it. She essays the role of every hot blooded male’s fantasy effortlessly. A gregarious appetite for life, belief in love and childlike innocence with which she looks at you in wonderment leaves you in awe of this child woman! Mysterious, mesmerizing, a Diva – Bhairavi Goswami is a Paradox.
The first thing that strikes you about Bhairavi is that she is unpredictable, unconventional & extremely real! Unlike her contemporaries in the Indian film industry, she lives life on her own terms. She loves fast cars, extreme sports, is a certified River Rafter & rock climber, a Showjumper & Polo player. She is an Ace Equestrian champion & is passionate about Horses. She’s equally at ease in her riding breeches as in a Valentino. With Bhairavi Goswami, expect the unexpected, and she’ll still manage to surprise you!
Being an Actor was not part of her plan. Like the saying goes one doesn’t become an actor, but is born one. Acting is an art & Bhairavi Goswami is clearly gifted. She was a freelance journalist for various fashion, travel & lifestyle magazines until she participated in the coveted Gladrags contest. At Gladrags Bhairavi was a finalist followed by her winning the “Pantaloons Model Quest” & runner up at the “AXN Hot & Wild” contest. Touted as the Paris Hilton of the East, Bhairavi is the only Indian model to be featured in Newsweek, Telerama, Courier International & Paris Match. Having walked the ramp for top Indian designers and a myriad of Print & Television commercials under her belt Bhairavi chose to give it all up, once again to focus on Theatre. Extremely focused & goal oriented, Bhairavi knew that though modeling would bring her fame & money it would hold her back from pursuing a career in acting.
Choosing to take the road less traveled, Bhairavi the sexy supermodel started doing theatre to hone her acting skills. A glamorous model in her teens giving up a promising career to take up theatre for meager pay was unheard of. People were shocked & surprised at her shift towards theatre. Even more when they realized that Bhairavi was a competent & gifted actor! All of Bhairavi’s plays have been extremely well received & run to packed houses in India & abroad. She has worked with theatre stalwarts & has surprised the audiences & cast/crew members alike with her histrionics. With a casual toss of her lustrous raven hair and the mischievous glint in her eye she says, “I like surprising people” She is the only Indian actress amongst her peers to have 10 hugely successful plays to her credit. Having tasted success with Theatre, Films was next on the agenda by natural progression for this Bollywood Bombshell. She was cast in her debut film; the super hit ensemble comedy “Bheja Fry” after Director Sagar Ballary saw her performance in the hugely successful play “Tea, Coffee or Me”. The rest as they say is History or in this case HERstory!
The resounding success of “Bheja Fry” as one of the freshest & path breaking films to hit the screens in recent years & got Bhairavi a lot of media coverage & accolades. Essaying the role of a nymphomaniac girlfriend, one can’t help but draw parallels with the eternal sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. Ironically Marilyn Monroe is one of Bhairavi’s idols & she even has a cat named after her!
In a very short span of time, Bhairavi has worked with some of our best talent & biggest stars. She has 2 films awaiting release & 2 shows on television apart from the controversial “The Bhairavi Goswami Show”. She is fiercely optimistic that India will never see another show like this. The curvaceous diva with her cocky childlike innocence says that she wants to be immortalized through her body of work!
Call her “Paris Hilton of the East” or “India’s very own Marilyn Monroe”; Bhairavi graciously accepts these titles as compliments. Tongue in cheek she replies “Being an actor is a responsibility & a choice we choose to become public figures so why cringe when something unpleasant is written about in the press? It doesn’t matter WHAT they write about you, what matters is that they write about YOU!” I wouldn’t know about comparisons (however flattering),
